THE PIED PIPER OF COVID

A play in verse

by

Rebecca Abrams

In early 2020, a global pandemic reached Britain and forced the country into lockdown. Twelve months on, the UK has the worst death rate is Europe and is still in the grip of Covid 19.

But is Covid the only plague we’re battling against, or are there others, less obvious but just as dangerous? And are the political leaders charged with getting us through this crisis helping, or are they using the pandemic to advance their deeper and darker interests?

I wrote The Pied Piper of Covid in the latter half of 2020 to try and capture in words that strange, scary, world-changing year as we experienced it. I also wrote it to channel my rage about the UK government’s handling of the pandemic, and its toxic combination of incompetence, dishonesty and venal self-interest.
