Not as Roman as it looks

This mini-podcast focuses on one of the 22 objects from the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, whose stories I re-curate in The Jewish Journey, and this is one of my absolute favourites: a gold coin made by the Romans in 70 CE to celebrate their conquest of the city of Jerusalem and defeat of the Jewish rebels.  It was brought to England soon after by a Roman soldier, and then lost for the next 2000 years. But the most astonishing part of the story reveals where the gold for the coin originally came from - a wonderful reminder that objects are not always quite what they seem…listen below.
